Brief

Nursery staff write many notes about each child, and most are filed and never read again. Avetra reads every note and tells the educator what it shows about the child and what to try next.

Starting point
The first prototype tried to do too much. We stopped and built the one thing educators do every day first: record a note about a child and get something useful back.

My part

As CTO I’m responsible for product and technology: the architecture, the data, the AI, and most of the design and code.
The AI never makes safeguarding decisions. If a note might describe an incident, an educator decides, and once it is logged it can’t be edited.
Every change to the AI is tested against real nursery notes before it is released.
Children’s data is sent to one AI provider directly, and to no one else.

The work

When checking a note, you confirm what it found and whether it’s an incident.

“Finn played outside” isn’t enough to go on, so it asks for more.

Amara’s parents haven’t agreed to AI, so this note is tagged by hand.

Alya’s record. Maths hasn’t come up in ten weeks, so it suggests an activity.

The room lead approves every note before parents see it.
