A kitchen from the showroom shoot: wood cabinets, a white island with Yamazaki racks, stands and a knife block set out on it, pendant lights above.

Brief

Yamazaki Jitsugyo sells hundreds of kitchen, bath and living products on Amazon. Many of them do almost the same job, so it’s hard to know which one you need. After a year of pitching, the team agreed on a showroom: rooms in an ordinary Japanese home with the products in use. We found a real house and photographed it.

At the shoot

I wasn’t leading the shoot, but I was there to make sure the photos would work for the build. I checked that each shot could be used as a room you move around in, with space for the hotspots, and that the products were placed where people would look for them.

My part

  • Led engineering of the showroom, on desktop and mobile.
  • Built each room as a large photo you can drag around, with hotspots that open each product.
  • Organised the products into six rooms, from the kitchen to the entrance, so you can find things by where they would be used.

The work

Dragging across the living room and tapping the accessory tray.
The kitchen on a phone and a tablet: the same photo with white hotspot dots, room tabs or a side menu, and a strip of product thumbnails.
The kitchen on mobile and desktop, using the same photo and hotspots.
Tablet screens of the desktop showroom: kitchen, living room, bathroom, laundry, toilet and entrance, some with a product panel open on the right.
The kitchen, living room, toilet, bathroom, laundry and entrance.
Three phone screens: the Yamazaki welcome screen loading, the kitchen with hotspots, and a jug bottle stand opened from a hotspot with price and rating.
Mobile, from the welcome screen to the jug bottle stand by the sink.
