Brief
Prosper runs palm oil mills in Malaysia and Papua New Guinea. Each mill recorded its day on paper logs and spreadsheets, and someone combined them into a daily report by hand. With Frond, each station enters its numbers directly, and the daily report is built from them for the managers and owners.
My part
- Worked at the mills to learn how each day is recorded, from the weighbridge to the final report.
- Designed and built Frond: the data model, the views for clerks, managers and owners, and sign-in for staff without email.
- Built a pipeline that turns recordings from site visits into structured notes.
- Wrote the rules we follow when setting up each new mill, listed below.
How we set up each mill
- Check every number against the mill’s own report first.
- Classify each field from the real document: a running total, a latest balance, today only, or a rate.
- Never fill in a default. If a number isn’t known, leave it empty.
- Rehearse the setup from scratch before a mill goes live.
- When a bug turns up, fix every place it could happen.
- Test it on the real screen with the people who will use it.
